It's just gone. The Programs folder is empty. I had a brief Windows warning message that I had no firewall, now the Windows firewall is activated.....Comodo is just plain GONE.
I had an Avast "program" update yesterday that required a restart.

Like you, hech54, I have Avast anti-virus and Comodo firewall. Nothing like you have mentioned has happened to me. Perhaps malware that is launched by a spoof Avast restart message? (Speculating.)

I ran every malware program worth running and my computer in completely clean. Maybe my system restore I did a while ago killed Comodo and I never noticed? Maybe I'm getting senile?....
My wife had the same brief Windows security warning when she started her laptop, but I never installed Comodo on there...just Avast.
Her laptop always had just the Windows firewall and the firewall is active...no problems.
    STRANGE.

Long as we are on the subject, is Comodo still free? I had it a long time ago but switched to Zone Alarm for some reason. I like ZA but I can't block outgoing with it like I could in Comodo (unless I am missing something).

    Yes you can.

Any program that tries to make an Internet connection pops up a ZA query asking you to authorise it or block, one time or permanently.
    From the help file:
    access permission
Access permission allows a program on your computer to initiate communications with another computer. This is distinct from server permission, which allows a program to "listen" for connection requests from other computers. You can give a program access permission for the Trusted Zone, the Internet Zone, or both.

Several common applications may need access permission to operate normally. For example, your browser needs access permission in order to contact your ISP's servers. Your e-mail client (for example, MS Outlook) needs access permission in order to send or receive e-mail.

The following basic options are available for each program:

Allow the program to connect to computers in the Internet Zone / Trusted Zone

Block the program from accessing computers in the Internet Zone / Trusted Zone

Ask whether the program should have access permission (show Repeat Program alert)

    server permission
Server permission allows a program on your computer to "listen" for connection requests from other computers, in effect giving those computers the power to initiate communications with yours. This is distinct from access permission, which allows a program to initiate a communications session with another computer.

Several common types of applications, such as chat programs, e-mail clients, and Internet Call Waiting programs, may need server permission to operate properly. Grant server permission only to programs you're sure you trust, and that require it in order to work.

If possible, avoid granting a program server permission for the Internet Zone. If you need to accept incoming connections from only a small number of machines, add those machines to the Trusted Zone, and then allow the program server permission for the Trusted Zone only.

The following basic options are available for each program

Allow the program to listen for connection requests

Block the program from listening for connection requests

Ask me whether to allow the program to listen for connection requests (show Server Program alert)
There is an option like "See fewer alerts" that uses some kind of preset whitelist, maybe you have done that. You will be able to change a program's access permissions at any time anyway from ZA's control centre.

  9. Don't bother with PC Tools. They are dropping the free version now that Symantec got a hold of them. Comodo is still free. The only issue I've had with the new version 4 is getting it to install over version 3 correctly. I had to completely remove 3 to get the installer to run right. Good thing I exported my configuration before getting started.

I have both Comodo (4.1.150349.920) and Avast installed as well. I received an update (to Avast 5.0.677), that required a restart. Comodo wasn't deleted, although it was temporarily disabled during the update process. After the restart, Comodo was running as usual.

Thank You. That confirms that I am therefor an idiot.
