We just installed Comodo+antivirus and was told if we had another virus program installed to remove it.
The question: is the comodo antivirus good enough to be the only one?

You definitely do not want two or more active antivirus scanners running at the same time; can lead to freezes & BSODs if they both attempt to access the same file at the same time. I don't know much about Comodo's antivirus, but the firewall is excellent in my opinion. Always performs very well when I run Shields Up! on it, and it is very cusomizeable.

I wouldn't rely on it at the moment, here's a quote from a PC Magazine review.

According to Comodo's press materials, the antivirus is "highly-regarded" and "acclaimed by industry experts, and by magazines such as Computer Shopper and Computer America." Computer America is actually a radio show, not a magazine, though. And I couldn't find any review of the antivirus on Computer Shopper's Web site. When I checked with Comodo, its reps couldn't produce a single magazine review or example of praise by an industry expert for the antivirus—only for the firewall. And as noted earlier, the antivirus hasn't been certified by any of the major independent antivirus testing labs. On my tests, it ranked very close to the bottom both for malware removal and protection against new infestation. And even when its cleanup qualified as a full or partial success, it left behind more junk than most. Yes, it's free, but other free solutions do a much better job.—
...and here's the link to the full review.

I still use AVG Free for antivirus with the Comodo Firewall.

    Thanks safesurfer for your reply.
I agree with you that the Comodo firewall plus the AVG free antivirus is the way to go. The Comodo antivirus needs a little more time to develop.

  6. I'm not at my PC now so I can't check it but is there a way to turn off the antivirus function and keep the firewall running in Comodo?

    Yes, it's pretty easy!

Go to Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs>Click Change/Remove for Comodo Internet Security. In the dialog make sure Add/Remove is highlighted and click next. At the next screen uncheck the Install Comodo Antivirus (keep the Firewall Install checked) and run the wizard. This will uninstall the Antivirus module but keep the Firewall intact.

I have no problems in using more than one antivirus on my computers.
