The 'remux svcd to get vcd' trick - problems

The file ends up being 50mb bigger than it was.

My dvd player still wont read it.

I know it reads VCD's, it even reads the shonky ones I created on my first attempts, using Sefy's high compression templates, which I think used svcd mpeg2 compression in a vcd mpg1 format. They work, so why wont these ones???
