  1. If you buy a 3D TV, do you have to buy the 3D blu ray movies for it to work with the 3D glasses?? I don't even see 3D blu ray movies out on the market yet.

If you buy a 3DTV, and want to see 3D on it. You have to use compatible glasses (being of the same brand usually works best here) and be supplying the TV with a 3D-compatible source.

    This can be:
    1. 3D BluRay discs
    2. 3D TV/Cable/Sat broadcasts (using a 3D-compatible TV/Cable/Sat reciever)
    3. 3D from your personal 3D camera (like Panasonic AG-3DA1 or Fuji FinePix W3)
    4. 3D-capable HTPC (using things like nVidia 3D-vision or Stereoscopic Player, or Depth-Q's 3D player, etc). This includes stills, video and 3D streaming media from such sites as YouTube and Vimeo

BTW, there are ~3 or 4 current 3D BluRay discs out on the market already. Another 3 or 4 due out before the end of the year. This doesn't count the many previous BluRay, DVD, VCD, VHS, etc media that used somewhat older 3D techniques like SD interlace, SD side-by-side or Anaglyph (which can all still be used for enjoyment).

3D BluRay is getting off to a slow start, but don't worry. Unless a perfect storm of circumstances derails this trend, it'll be huge. But people don't have a whole lot of money right now, so the whole UPGRADE thing gives people pause for concern.

  5. Thanks guys, it looks like there still are not many titles available. I mean, Lord of the Rings Trilogy EXTENDED VERSION is not even out yet. I'm sure it is going to take a while to double dip and remake all the blu ray titles in 3D.

    Uhhmm,

You'll have a long wait for LOTR, and many other current 2D features. It takes ~6-16 months to "dimensionalize" a 2D feature - each. Especially if it isn't intended/expected in the production budget.

They'd have to do the conversion for the film first, before re-authoring for the BluRay. MORE delay.

You'll have better luck with titles that are already in 3D but don't have BluRay3D. Maybe they came out with an old style Anaglyph DVD (extra features segment), or never had a consumer 3D release. Now will be the time.
Look for the classic '50s and '80s titles (although a few need to have some post-pro optimization done first). Since they rarely were ACTUALLY shot in Anaglyph, they can have a new lease on life now that there's a full-quality 3D Home CE format.

  7. Prices of those 3d blue ray movies need to come down a bit before this 3D thing takes off. Price for BlueRay 3D 'Clash of the Titans" is about $100.00 on eBay.

That's probably cuz WHV hasn't released it in the US yet. To be a true 3D BluRay, it would have to be a German or Japanese import (or bootleg), thus the higher cost.

    YES!

The BD3D spec was specifically designed to be completely backward compatible with 2D BD. It follows the Standard Player vs. Enhanced Player model I've previously mentioned. With the MVC Enhancement data residing in UserData packets, they are ignored by a Standard Player, whereas they are incorporated along with the MVC Basic data (which is compatible & equivalent to standard AVC) to create the 3D when used by a 3D player. They are then modified to give the kind of output needed for the Display (this should usually be "Frame Packing" method).
