I'm sure I must be doing something wrong, but this has been bugging me for a long time and I finally decided to ask somebody about it. I'm using MkvExtractGUI 1.6.4.1 and it just doesn't seem to handle chapters properly. First off, when I drop a Matroska file onto the window, it ALWAYS shows an entry at the end for Chapters, even when there aren't any. If you go to the chapters page it says "Error: Unrecognized command line option. Maybe you put a mode specific option before the input file name?".

When I select the audio track only for extraction, MkvMergGUI ALWAYS extracts a chapters file too containing that same text.

Now for the really annoying part... if the Matroska file really does contain chapters, it is listed second from the last entry with a count of the number of chapters found, however... selecting this chapters entry for extraction has no effect. Only the audio file is extracted. Clicking either valid or invalid chapters entry on and off has no effect on the command line preview. The chapters preview tab also still shows the "Unrecognized command line option" instead of the list of chapters in the valid Chapters entry.

If I want the chapters extracted I have to manually enter the command in a command prompt window, then it works fine. Am I doing something wrong? Is this just a quirk of MkvMergeGUI that everybody else lives with?

    TIA.

Yes I did, sorry about that. I didn't know there was a newer tool available, I will look into it now. Thanks.
