First look to the left for 'DVD Hacks'. But I don't believe any hacks exist for that player. Not unusual for Sony players. If you need a region free player, you would probably need a different brand player. Maybe one of the inexpensive Philips players.

Alternately, if you just have a few different region DVDs, maybe convert them with software in a PC. But there are problems converting PAL region DVDs.

    And welcome to our forums.

Probably the easiest solution would be to move to an alternate universe where this player has a hack.

But seriously, as redwudz says Sony players are among the most difficult in the world to make region free. Most Sony players can't ever be made region free. It's just easier to buy something that actually can be made region free such as Pioneer or Philips. But you should check on models BEFORE buying to see if hacks exist.

At this point in time, I'd say that the majority of DVD players sold in North America cannot be made region free. That's as Hollywood wants it.

If you plan on buying "in person" at a place like Best Buy or similar....go there and make a list of what they have available then bring the list home and do some research on which ones have a good and recent history of being hacked.

If you don't want BluRay, Pioneer and Philips in general are the easiest to convert as both should still sell some models in the USA that can be made region free. But they may also sell some models in the USA that cannot be hacked, so check to see if a hack exists for a specific model before you buy.

The Philips DVP5990 is cheap and it had a hack that was reported to work in the past. Best Buy sells it. For specific Pioneer models you'll probably have to buy online at Amazon.com or some other online vendor.

Why not just buy a region free dvd player? There are tons of models. Do an internet search.
