Hi all
i have been trying to convert a avi movie and am having problems with the Audio.
the programe that i am trying to use to extract the audio is VirtualDub, The settings that i am using is:
Audio / Full Processing Mode.
Audio / Compression / Select <no compression pcm>
Audio / Conversion 44100Hz
but when i try to save it to Wav file i get the message:
The requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format. check that the sampling rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format.
now if i go into File Information and look at the Audio Stream the Sampling rate is 48000 and thechannels is 5 stereo. am i having a problem because of the channels being 5 ? and if so how can i change it , or how can i extract the audio as i have tried all diferent settings but still can not extract the audio to a wave file.
i have tried to just encode the movie using TMPEnc but i get the same sort of problem there it will load the video but says that the audio is not supported. yet the movie file plays without any problems on my computer.
i also have all upto date Codecs installed { i think }
any help will be greatly appreciated.

that means you have ac3 audio. Theres a guide under the "convert" section on how to convert a divx with ac3 audio over there to the left.. good luck

pubmaster, do this'
Audio > direct stream copy
SAVE WAV
Now that WAV is probably an AC3 which you can convert to an uncompressed WAV using headac3he from; http://mitglied.lycos.de/darkav/svcdguide/svcd.html -
Thanks Guys for a quick response
i have used VirtualDub to just make a wave file under direct stream copy
and i have just downloaded and installed Headac3he and got a message about Vorbis file not right, so have Downloaded a later version of Vorbis and i am now getting the message after pressing source file and clicking on my wave file. <could not find data chunk >
am i missing something basic here or have i got a duff movie file ?
any more help is greatly needed -
You have to change the extension of the .wav file your trying to convert to .ac3 so h3adache will recognize it.
P.S
Make sure that you tell windows not to hide known file extensions.
in windows explorer select tools - folder options - click on the "view" tab
and uncheck the box "hide extensions for known file types"
if you dont do this windows wont change the file extension from wav to ac3.. it will end up doing something like movie.ac3.wav because the .wav file extion is hidden in the default folder view. -
Thanks DanW
It worked a treat, i have just managed to do a VCD of that movie file
but i could not have done it without your help.
Thanks again
