When I captured my footage and brought it into FCP, as soon as I drag my clips to the timeline, without any effects or transitions, they automatically come up with a red line which means they need to be rendered. This has taken away quality from my footage and I dont know why this happened as it never happened before. Can you please tell me why this could be?
Thank you!

Does your project/sequence or preset settings match the footage characteristics ?
-
The same as your camera.
e.g. if you shot PAL DV-AVI, you would use the same setting (not something like HDV or NTSC DV for example)
I'm not on a Mac, but I know FCP behaves similar to Premiere on PC
Red render bar usually means mismatch between footage and sequence settings
