Which dvd authoring proggie??

Hi i am very new to burning DVD-R and have a pioneer a04 or 1.04 depending on where u live lol. Anyway i have backed up a couple of dvd's on final destination and the other black hawk down. Final dest. was simple cause it was under the big 4.5gb and ran a dream even when skipping chapters. Black hawk down was another story over 6gb and had to be shrunk with rempeg. I have watched the dvd-r and the last few chapters skip and go very blocky could this be the authoring tool i used spruce up 1.1 for both is there better alternatives?? Or could it be the dvd-r discs i'm using techno dvdr media.
My system is an Athlon 2000XP
512mb pc2100ddr ram
windows XP Pro.

i had the exact same problem.from what i gathered it was the discs.if i used slightly better quality dvd'rs it never happened again.
i now use data-safe generation3.dvdr's from.
