I have a lot of Avi, Mpeg files that I want to write on DVDs.

I have different programs. Nero 8 and 9, Ashampoo 9, NTI, and few more.

I used to have very good experience using Taiyo Yuden. The last batch I have written have been so/so. I have had 20 to 30 percent damaged, unreadable DVD created using Taiyo Yunden.

Now I am trying to find the best combination of software and media to use. I have a Samsung burner (Average).

What is the best software to use. please keep in mind, I can prepare my VOB using TMPGEnc Authoring or other programs. So I need to know what is the best program to use, in order not to have unreadable DVD.

    What media is the best?
What DL media is the best?

    I would appreciate any response,

And thanks in advance for any response

Ditch Nero and Ashampoo and do all your burning with Imgburn.

DL media - there is only one : Verbatim +R DL

SL media - Verbatim or TY

There is no 100% guarantee on burned media. It is just the nature of the beast.

k-lite - abomination. No good codec packs.
Super - average quality but big range
Xvid4psp - high quality, good range, latest version not so good.
Nero - bloated, average quality, un-necessary

    First of thanks for responses

I also have not had a very good experience with Nero since nero 7.

I have read (in this forum) a lot of good things about Verbatim DL, but abouth 3 months ago I bought a 15 pack and 10 of them turned to coasters. So I do not know .....

if you are not burning with Imgburn then that is most likely your problem. Verbatim +R DL are the only DL blanks that have a consistent track record.

Ok, I am sold on Verbatim +R Dl, but there are few kinds

    http://www.meritline.com/verbatim-8x-dvd-plus-r-dl-branded-on-spindle-96542---p-27286.aspx

    http://www.meritline.com/verbatim-6x-dl-dvd-plus-r-dual-double-layer-dvd-r-95123---p-18457.aspx

    http://www.meritline.com/verbatim-dl-dvd-plus-r-95166---p-18466.aspx

Speed is not important to me and neither is the ability to print on the cover.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Both of these appear to be the older 2.4X-speed version, which will probably be the MKM-001 dye. The first is the printable version, second is non-printable. These may be the "safer" bet, in terms of successful burning <shrug>.

If you've got a fairly recent burner, with current firmware, you can give the 8X ones a try. If you have an older burner or the firmware is more than a couple of years old, the 2.4X maybe be more successful for you. As guns1inger said, it isn't 100%. And, I haven't done a bunch of DL burning, and I think what I have at home is the 2.4X speed (I bought them several years ago). You might want to check the ImgBurn forums (http://forum.imgburn.com/) and search for your particular burner to see what might be recommended.

    Hope that helps,
    Jim
