I understand what you are saying, but when you insert something that has absolutely nothing to do with the storyline, you start to lose focus of what you are trying to get across to the audience. It is the equivalent of inserting someone tripping on a banana peel into a movie about airplanes or vehicles.

    Exactly!

It's like a lot of these "pushing the envelope" comedies lately have to show a guy's wang , supposedly for comedic value. I would much rather see the guy slipping on a banana peel.

I think that some of these directors (?) don't get that the "uh-oh" moments with female nudity aren't for comedy, but rather to attract the male audience. The inverse isn't true, since women aren't as much into the low-brow comedy as guys.

Hollywood, if you're listening, A GUY'S BARE ASS IS NOT FUNNY. Randomly inserting man-ass shots can grind the film to a halt, rather than providing comedy relief.
That goes the same for animal sex (or the similar robot to human leg-humping).

The saddest thing is that they tested these scenes on an audience and had favorable responses. I've been part of quite a few final cuts, and the slightest "eh" from the audience will get a scene dropped at light speed (unless they're running short, which this movie obviously wasn't)

  4. I agree Supreme and as an addendum to your post...

The director must not lose focus of who the audience is. In my experience, women(unless they are tomboys) do not like Transformers and 99.9% of the male population(including myself) is not gay, so why would I want to see a man's ass?

Or Transformer Testicles, for that matter.

But again, audiences (especially American audiences, which is all Hollywood really gives a toss about anyway) keep shelling out for crap, so Hollywood gives them what they are happy to pay for.

That leaves the rest of us out in the cold because instead of getting a good T4, we get Salvation - the Transformers of the Terminator series.

@Dv8ted2 : According to the stats, as least 10% of US males do like to see a man's arse. You might want to be careful who you sit next to . . . .

The saddest part about the Transformer's fiasco is Spielberg putting his name to it. Between this and the last Indy film, he is skating on thin ice as far as credibility is concerned.

Now "that" I agree with, I hated Salvation, it was crap IMHO, not because of the way it was written, but because the terminator bots were far to easy to kill in Salvation, a couple of shots of a gun, & they were destroyed, they were dropping like flies. In all 3 other movies, it took the whole movie to kill the terminator, what gives with that?

    "O'doul rules!"

Yeh, you are right, but I still didn't find it of great concern, but then again, I am not a hard Tranformers fan anyways, if I were, I suppose I would be agreeing with you.

Not so much US bashing, but facing facts. Hollywood is almost at the point of declaring a movie a success or failure purely on opening weekend or even opening night box office. Certainly the trade press is doing this already. Given 98% or Hollywood movies open in the US first, with only the major piracy target films getting simultaneous global release, the US film goer has all power when it comes to determining what will be made next by the major studios.

No so sure where you got the homophobia thing from.

Don't start on bloody Harry Potter. I live in a house full of fans and that is all I am hearing about. Another franchise that I am well and truly over.

That was in response to this,
In my experience, women(unless they are tomboys) do not like Transformers and 99.9% of the male population(including myself) is not gay, so why would I want to see a man's ass?
and correcting his dubious stats on the topic and letting him know the audience might be bigger than he realises. Nothing else was implied.

OK back to something lighter - I did pick up the real ghostbusters cartoon dvd set yesterday.

I almost didn't see it as it was filed under the letter R for "real ghostbusters" instead of G for ghostbusters like I expected.

Anyway I haven't started watching it yet but I do look forward to it. (fyi its the volume 1 5 disc set that I picked up)
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

@stiltman - my point being was a connection to the past - the Transformers series was and is a special piece of many of our pasts. The same with Ghostbusters.

Besides - where is it written we can't go off topic on an off topic thread???

  16. Hey, talking about G)-(ostbusters, has anyone seen Return of the Ghostbusters? It has actually got a really good score of 6.8/10 on IMDB & some great reviews, unlike most sequels plus the fact that it was never released in cinemas.

Check out this one too, Freddy VS Ghostbusters, believe it or not, it also has a good score of 6.9/10 on IMDB.

Has anyone seen either of these? I really want to see them, I will be looking to rent or buy them this week.

Sorry to disappoint you both, but I don't go that way.

Plus, I would lose the money I'm getting paid for giving yado131 crap all the time

My son and I went and we both enjoyed it - wife stayed home having no interest.

Overall I enjoyed it a bit more than the first - more humor and more action.

    @Supreme2k : But she's a pretty hot leathery skank...

I loved the first movie! It did justice to the bots without sacrificing them to drive the human part of the equation instead.

The second movie however, was total, complete, dogshit.

I bought one of those japan-release sets going around e-bay and amazon a while back. The one in the spiffy metal tin, very nice.

So i already have the full G1 U.S series.

I thought that (strictly) in terms of robots smashing the shit out of each other, ROTF was a better movie. Add in the retarded human subplots and it was unwatchable at some points.

Megan Fox looks too old for her age. She needs a higher SPF sunblock. And less lip injections. and more (any?) acting lessons.

part of the reason I didn't care to go see the 2nd movie is because I thought the direction it would take would be to increase her skankiness/exposure throughout the movie.

I really marvel at that advancements in technology that make these robots/explosions/etc. look so real, but really that's the extent of my enjoyment of the movie.
