Ok nobody's posted about it here yet so i thought I'd give it a go.

I saw it this afternoon. I liked it. While I agree its not the greatest movie ever and isn't "deep" by any means its fun and isn't that all that really matters in a summer action flick?

I think all the crap its taken from movie critics is underserved. For any critic that gave even passing marks for the first movie should be stripped of their credentials if they panned this one. It is no different in terms of pace and style than the first movie. If you liked the first movie you'll like the second. Much of the original cast returns and that helps in terms of continuity.

I won't get into details for those that haven't seen it and want to while its in the theaters. I will say though there is a great throwback reference to the 86 Transformers cartoon movie. I wasn't sure at first that was where the reference came from but I just checked with my copy (i have the first Rhino release not the anniversary edition). it was what I thought it was. It was nice watching the cartoon again.

When in the world are they going to rerelease the original series on dvd? I mean the Peter Cullen voiced episodes???

Where have you been? It's been out for a while.

This movie was much better than the first. Less Megan Fox. I went to see a movie about giant fighting transforming robots, not about some leathery skank.

Anyway, the second movie was okay. I don't regret my $6 ticket and $1 popcorn with $1 coke. That's really all I can say on it. It didn't suck. Worth a couple of hours to watch.

I liked the Pretender, that dirty college slut. Now how about some Headmasters or Targetmasters, hmm?

    @supreme2k and lordsmurf - thanks.

I actually just checked bestbuys website and they have the rereleased dvds in a single season set. 140.00 is a bit steep for me when I just want the first season and not the whole first gen set. This isn't like Robotech was to me where I wanted the entire story line because I only knew the Minmei/Rick story arc. I just want the memories of the first year

I'll try to pick it up tomorrow assuming they are in stock.

  7. I absolutely hated it. I walked out in the middle of the movie. Transformers did not used to be about guys puking and showing guys in underwear. I had no need to see that kind of garbage. It is supposed to be about transforming robots.

@dv8ted2 - I understand your objections to that part. I don't like that part of the movie. I just glaze over that and wait for the next action scene.

I seriously can't get enough of that explosion stuff they can do nowadays. That is exactly what you wanted from the original cartoons but could only dream of it....

Not to mention the detail they put into the robot designs...

I enjoyed it. Took my wife and two boys (ages 4 and 8 ) to see it. There were a few scenes not appropriate for them to see but seeing as this was a pg-13 movie I guess I have nothing to complain about.

The only thing I really didnt like about it was the shot of that former section 8 guys butt. My youngest son was like "daddy that man's bottom is naked.... thats nasty!" My sons response made laugh even though the movie scene didn't.

Overall I liked it and enjoyed watching it with my family. We all left talking about it and the fact that they left it open for a 3rd movie.

I thought the first one was

    a) badly written - the dialogue, the story - everything about it was second rate and very poor quality. The humour was sub-Scary Movie for laughs and quality. 1 star

    b) Averagely directed. The direction was barely enough to get it over the line as a movie. When made for TV sci fi does it better, you know you aren't getting your monies worth. 1 star.

    c) Badly edited. ILM did some amazing work. I know - I have seen the stills. However the movie was so badly cut and so over the top frenetic that there is no way to see what the hell was going on. 0 stars.

Everything I have read about this film is covered in Yoda's line from above
If you liked the first movie you'll like the second
    and from our local critics
It is just like the first movie, but with bigger explosions
That is enough to put me off.

My ten year old loved the first one and wants to see the second one. That is pretty much the intellectual level of these two films. The sad fact is, I don't know anyone who wants to take him, because I don't know anyone who wants to sit through another mindless assault on the senses that gives nothing to viewer but noise and a headache.

That was the other issue I had with the first movie. It is obviously aimed at kids in every respect, and yet in the middle of the film, out of nowhere, comes this incredibly unfunny, pointless bit about masturbation. There are a hundred other conversations a clever writer could have come up with the go in that space and serve the same purpose, so why go with something so completely out of place and inappropriate in a film aimed and obviously younger market.

If this was Seth Rogen's Transformers I would have said yep, OK, to be expected.

I understand going in that anything with Michael Bay's name on the credits is going to be a mind-numbing, low IQ experience. That only thing he has ever done that is close to not being crap is The Rock. Not great art, but not what we are seeing now. It is a toss up between Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich for who is the worst of the summer blockbuster crap merchants. The only advantage Emmerich has is that he lets his edits last longer than 12 frames - something Michael Bay stopped doing quite some time ago.

I totaly agree with that, but it went over my kids heads, just like some of the stuff said on The Simpsons.

the movie was pretty good, but being a big fan of the original cartoons I don't like how Prime and the Autobots are so 'casual' to kill Decepticons.

Fyi I finally got a hold of the original cartoon dvds. Bestbuy did indeed have the reissued season one gen one set. I almost missed it though. I checked the cartoon tv shows on dvd and they only had the wimpy "modern" interpretations. It turns out they were stuck in the "collection" section of the dvds. It was next to things like the john wayne collection and that type of stuff.

I haven't watched the first episode again yet. I did pop in the bonus disc and watch the background on it. That was fun. Too bad it was only twenty minutes. A little more would have been nice. Though it was nice having some of the original commercials for the toys. It was weird though they blurred out the kids faces in the commercials who were playing with the toys. Either they couldn't track down who was in them to get permission to show them or they didn't bother and just took the easy way out.

This will be fun to watch again. I may buy more season sets as they hit the stores in the rereleased mode.

I am unsure about one thing - when was the animated movie out? I think it was 86 acording to the roman numerals at the end of the credits - at least it had something, something, XXXVI at the end of it. So was it was after season 2 then? If it came out in 84? Or was it after season 3?

I think I might want to have the shows up to the point they killed off Optimus the first time and started with the new stuff.

    Transformers: The Movie

Much has changed since the battles of 1984 and all the way up to 2005. Chiefly, many new faces on both sides are present and the Decepticons rule Cybertron with an iron fist. Though the Autobots intend to change that, the battle will not be easy. Twists and turns ensure death and chaos for many – even Optimus and Megatron. However, a weakened Megatron manages to make a pact with the vile Unicron for greater power. Seeking the Autobot Matrix of Leadership, Galvatron leads Cyclonus and Scourge into action. More is at stake than they know, and it will take an unlikely Autobot to save the day.

Well the episode guide lists 50 episodes for season 2 counting the movie.

It lists 16 episodes for the first season.

    Big difference I know.

Click on the link in my above post for episode guide of all transformers cartoons. They have it laid out by seasons.

Well, to tell truth, I had't watched it because I had no intention of to. I usually dispise when they take a era's toon or other, and make an actual movie out of it..hulk, etc., but after browsing in bestbuy one day (month ago) I got instantly hooked to the 1st one (didn't know there was a sequal) .. saw the scene where they were just introducing the 'cube' and then a few minutes after that, one of the bots broke out of hits ice cacoon or whatever it was frozen in. That's when I said, "get out while you can or else you'll ruin the moment for later on" so I left. But (ironically) it was actaully the boom and explosion (aka, sound effects) that got to me. Well, they had it hooked up to a 60" or so and some deep bass sound system. I was lost. Anyway, a few weeks later I finally found a DVD (didn't want to spend the $30 for bluray) so I got it on dvd for $12.99 'ish. Gosh, I haven't even watched it yet. Man. When will I finally sit down to watch the darn thing. I guess I'm waiting for the moment (feeling/thrill/goosbumps) to come back I guess.

(I think, for me, the moment has to catch me off guard)

I don't know what it is these days, since the latest of star wars 1/2/3, whever I aproach a store that is playing a movie (usually that I haven't seen, yet, though sometimes no plans to see) I get the thrills, chills, and goosebumps and sold, or my hearts pounds and I can't take it no more cause i'm nurvous at what's going to happen, etc. Oh well.

  21. My 5 year old wants to see it big time. I looked at many reviews and it would seem it follows the same lines as many number twos....more foul language and more sex...

I told him we couldn't see it because it's PG-13, and only 13 year olds and above can see it. He pretty much knows the rateing system for movies and games...Dad it's E we can get it, right. It's PG, you better take me

Well I finally started my cartoon set. I like it a lot!! Ah the memories.

Isn't Kasey Kasem (spelled with C's???) the one who does half the voices in it???

Anyway this has been a blast. I got the first four down.

I also own the Super Mario Super Show Vol 1 + 2, Zelda, SMB 3, and Robotech. I"m tempted to try to recreate the old saturday morning routine from way back when. I should do one episode of eeach in aarow.

I can't wait for the "REAL GHOSTBUSTERS" to be rerelased on dvd. Is that this summer or fall?

Actually, you guys whining about PG-13 shouldn't be so restrictive. That just means that parental guidance is suggested, not that it's for 13 years or older. That's where you come in as a parent, to explain the parts with which they may have questions. PG-13 doesn't even mean that kids under 13 aren't admitted without an adult. It's simply a caution to the parents. R and above are the only truly restrictive ratings.

OK got a question for you. I don't remember but they did not have a trailer for Optimus Prime in the first or second movie right?

I'm guessing thats because they didn't want to have to keep track of it or do the extra animation right?

Speaking of the trailer - they never did explain how they kept track of it when they were on missions did they? I mean you never really see him go back to pick up the trailer after fighting with the Decepticons do you?

EDIT - I saw at bestbuy.com that the real ghostbusters cartoon set is finally out!! It was out in march. I'll defintely pick that up this weekend. Hopefully its the complete 1st season. it says its a 5 disc collection. I'm hoping they're consecutive and not a mishmash of episodes....

That is yet another example of what was wrong with the movie. It is supposed to be about transforming robots, not dogs humping each other.

It would have been better if Michael Bay had left that stuff out because it was not necessary.
