So whats up with this re-release of the pilot episode for SG1?
Is this "fully remastered" alla the Star Wars Special Editions? Did they redo all the special effects? Add deleted scenes? What makes it a "final cut"?
Is it available in Bluray?

Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Are you talking about the original motion pictures release or the tv mini-mini series ?
(by mini-mini, I mean the mini series inside the series, haha)
serious though, you can't beat the original release. It was awsome and you had to see it for the first time. I think the tv series tarnished some of the original aspects of this picture, at least to some degree, but I do like most of the series.
I like my motion picture releases re-released with its original (transfer) grain. It gives it a certain aesthetic something about it--sort of takes you back in time when it was first released--that first mysterious impression.

ITs the new one that is being pushed on dvd right now. THat's what I'm not sure about.
I have it on dvd (the season sets - I have 1-10).Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Some early SG1 releases were bad prints, with audio errors. I don't recall if the pilot was one (I think it was), so this might just be a fix after all these years.

Yeah I may just rent it. After all I do have it on my season 1 set.
Though no 5.1 in season one was disappointing. Also I can't remember if season 1 was 1.78:1 widescreen or not. I know seasons 2-10 are widescreen.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I am not even going to waste my time watching it.
This is what i read about it....
This is basicly an alternate/reworked verion of the first episode that
was recently done by the shows producer and writer Brad Wright.
It is shorter than the original with some special effects upgrades and
lots of reediting.
Quotes from the DVD review on DVD Verdict:
Seven minutes. Thats how much time has been cut from the original
pilot movie. Odd, huh? Usually, the Directors Cut of anything is
longer and more complex than the original. Thats not the case here.
The largest change comes in the form of the re-edit. Wright cut scenes,
re-ordered others, and added new angles all with an eye toward delivering
a tighter film. Some of these edits were ones he wished he could have
done at the time but couldnt because of production problems such as a
scratch in the film marring all of Shanks close-ups in a pivotal scene.
But other edits were made with an eye toward a more sophisticated audience.
One of the small changes is the removal of a MacGyver joke. A larger change
is in the introduction to Carters character. In the original, she comes
on with a female chip on her shoulder, saying that she shouldnt be denied
just because her sex organs are on the inside and not the outside. This
line has been removed and the scene re-edited so its clear that ONeills
only problem with her is that shes a scientist and not a soldier.
The edit thats causing the biggest uproar is removal of the frontal
nudity that was shown when Share is presented to Apophis. Remember, the
series was originally made for Showtime, so nudity was a given. But now
that the series is considered safe, family fare, the scene has been removed.
Many fans have voiced their displeasure, saying that the nudity was
necessary to accentuate Apophis callous indifference, to make it feel
more like a rape. Others are thrilled to see the scene gone, saying that
it was a blot on an otherwise excellent movie. Though I wouldnt go so
far as to call the original cut pornographic as some have, removing the
nudity does invite a wider audience.
On top of everything else, how the hell are you going to take out a MacGuyver joke ?!?!
-
The nude scene never added to the story. It was just another way for Showtime to say "hey look, boobs!"

I saw this at walmart last saturday. Its the first pilot episode for the tv series. And they are hooking you with the slogan, "final cut" yada yada (not yoda yoda)
Still, I was tempted to get it--just because.
. . .
so wait.. they make movies right ?
they pride themselves on selling sex (boobs/ front and rear, knees, whatever) ? and
they pay a lot to [s:3f812e95fc]show[/s:3f812e95fc] sell this to us to watch in the thearter ? right ? and
they even release it on dvd later, right ?
So, I don't get it.. they cut it out on the so call, "final cut" version ? what ? I still don't get it ?
I give up ? yeah!
