Hi Guys,
I've started using Final Cut Pro (Version 5.0.1) a few months ago and now for the first time used the widescreen mode of my camera (which is 16,1 to 9 if I'm not mistaken --> 720x404).
I now wanted to import these files into Final Cut Pro to edit them and there comes the Problem:
In the standard settings of a new sequence final cut pro always cuts away a large part of the right side of my video and makes it a 4:3 picture and I have big black bars at the top and the bottom.
Therefore I changed the settings of my scene to 720x404 Pixelformat PAL. Now I have smaller black bars at the top and the bottom but the rest of the probs remain and I still have the right part of my video cut off.
Can anybody tell me why this is the case? Because I'm starting to get pissed off and already think about going back to Adobe Premiere which I think is a shame if one has the possibility to use Final Cut Pro.

What type of camera is it ?
If it is a PAL mini DV camera then the resolution will be 720 x 576, regardless of the aspect ratio. 4:3 and 16:9 fit into the same resolution, but are represented by different pixel aspect ratios to compensate. So you should be setting your project as a standard definition 16:9 PAL project. No fancy resolutions etc. FCP should understand your footage and display it correctly.Read my blog here.
