Trying To Capture NTSC VHS Video With UK Equipment

A thought about this process, does your tv take a pure ntsc signal, if not how are you going to watch the tape? Although if your Panasonic dvd recorder is set to ntsc it will record as such.

I recall that those Panasonic dvd recorders will accept a ntsc signal, record as such even if it is set to pal and will show as pal on your tv, I am not 100% sure though.

My TV does not accept true NTSC, I shouldn't think, no, I'm unsure if most UK TV's do.

But, what I hope is that I can capture and record an NTSC DVD, either using the Panasonic standalone or my Hauppauge card, and play it back on a standard UK player, as most, if not all, will play NTSC DVD's, which is what I will have created.

I'm torn between the two, but I'm thinking of the JVC. For a few reasons... the seller has a returns option in case of a problem, it has the remote, it's more of a home standard VCR, with scart, RF, etc.

I hope you know for certain. A true NTSC machine would NOT have Scart connections.
You might just be purchasing a "worldwide, multi-format" VCR....and that is basically
the same thing we have here in Europe. They also don't output a true NTSC signal.

Well, on the front of the machine, on the flap, it actually states - NTSC 3.58, NTSC 4.43, PAL.

A lot of multi standard vcr's are made for the Australian/Far East market and could well have scart, but they output the signal of the tape no converting.

When you say 'no converting', do you mean it outputs NTSC 3.58, as opposed to NTSC 4.43.

Incidentally, if American machines have no scart, what do they have? Phono connections?

Just to clarify, as I was mistaken before, the JVC VHS machine does not have scart. It has phono audio/video in/out.

Well, I bought the JVC video, and it worked perfectly, I was able to record an NTSC tape to DVD, using my standalone Panasonic recorder.
The only issue I had, is that even though it was advertised as being stereo, it's a mono model. So, I bought one of these -
