  1. Hey,

I've just started this new universe of converting old divX files to VCD/SVCD. Kinda cool to watch once old movies again on my Pioneer DV444 (dumb player btw..), and my brand new Sony 32" Widescreen telly.

Now, I have a coupple of divX movies thats NOT so easy to convert to SVCD... I've tryed 21 times with no success what so ever! Dang!!!

I've been using TMPGenc for all my convertions. Standard 320x256 or there about pixels 24-29Fps.

Can someone please guide me to what to select/uncheck in TMPGenc so that I can convert the two divX movies which is 512x384 pixels, and is running at 23.976 FPS? GOD dammit, I've made like 20ish CD's of the films and NONE have worked propperly..

I would really be glad if someone could send/post a "Step-by-Step" guide on all the things one shoud do, (aspect ratio, GOB, and what have you), in TMPGEnc to get the movies to play on the darn Pioneer DV444 player.

    Please Help!

  3. For future reference, I suggest using DVD player software to test the MPEG you created with TMPGEnc before burning it to CD. Save yourself some time and money. Might also be that it's not the MPEG, but the writers fault then.

well, according to the dvd player list on this site, your player should play just about everything.
I would try this: download some of the sample clips from here:
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/tools.htm
burn those to CDRW's, and make sure they play ok.
what software are you using to burn the cds? I would try to use this method:
use vcdeasy to generate an image of your (s)vcd, and then use daemontools to mount the image to a virtual CD, and then use Nero, or CloneCD, or whatever else to just do a CD copy.
that method is probably as close as you can get to "foolproof"
what are you askin' me for...
    I'm an idiot!

  5. You never actually stated what problem you were having. My assumption is that you are having trouble because of the funny resolution of the DivX file. You need to resize the picture to fit correctly for vcd/svcd (ie., form 512x384 down to 480x480 or whatever your target is). Use FitCD to tell you what resize should be done.

  6. Thank's for all replays and ideas. I've manage to "get them on tape" though and they'r running smooth as h*** now.
I think I've pinpointed the problem to! I assumed that since to movie itselfe was playing at 23.976 FPS I had to make it a NTSC movie as well..

I selected it to just be plain PAL and presto! it worked EasyVCD complains that's still not a valid format for svcd, but it plays, and Im happy as a fiddle.

Theres still things I dont understand about TEMPGEnc, e.g why does a film run out of sync when I use 2-pass VBR but with CBR at 1950 it doesnt, that's "beyond" me.. Never the less, Thank's for all help dudes!

    I really appreciate it
