I want to capture my hi8 tapes to my computer and then burn to CD.
My question is: What is the best way to get the Hi8 video to my computer using a Digital8 camcorder? Do I have to play the tapes to the digi8 camcorder first and then capture to my computer?
Sony directions are very confusing.
I have a Hi8 as well as a Digital8(new) camcorder and have a firewire conection on my computer. I have captured video from the digi8 unit sucessfully using Ulead Movie Factory.
Puter is DEll P4 1.9 w 640 MB mem and 40 Gig hd. Windows ME.
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I have tried search to no avail.

1stlink,
I'm not sure if the 240 allows pass-through (conversion of analog source to DV). If it does, the manual should indicate that.
On the Sony 140, you put the Hi8 tape into the camcorder and it does an on-the-fly conversion to DV. So you capture the same way you did before you just don't have timecode.
