I am currently using Media Player Classic version 6.4.9.1 and is experiencing major audio and subtitle problems.

The problem is, for some .mkv files, there is no sound or subtitles playing. However, for other files, it works perfectly. I thought the files with the missing sound and subtitles were faulty, but others said it was perfectly fine.

Now, why is some files working perfectly while others lack sound and subtitles? Are there any way to fix this?

    Thanks in advance.

Try use ac3filter if the mkv has ac3 or dts audio. And use latest vsfilter for subtitle decoding.

Also, you might run the videos you're having problems with through MediaInfo, to see if there's something common about them - such as audio encoded in a format for which you don't have a codec installed, etc.

Do you have (the latest) Haali Media Splitter installed?

It says it uses Real 4, which is quite odd.

And the only codec I have installed is ffdshow, using all the default preferences.

  6. Try MPCHC instead. I has more built in codecs, splitters, etc.

Do you have RealPlayer installed? (I'd say RealAlternative as well, but that's basically just the Real codecs, and you did say you have only ffdshow installed. )

I've never heard of Real audio codecs being used in an MKV, though.

Yeah, I have Real installed, but it doesn't do anything. Maybe I should upload the file and let you guys check what's wrong...but I highly doubt you'll be interested in what you'll see.

Does Real support playback of MKVs? I don't have it installed on this system to test.

Hmm... well, I've looked at the ffdshow audio decoder setup dialog, and it does apparently support Real 1 and 2, but not 4. If it's indeed a Real audio codec, Media Player Classic with RealAlternative installed would probably allow it to be played in MPC (but I don't think you can have RealPlayer and RealAlternative installed simultaneously).

I tried using RealAlternative, there's sound, but the subtitles are missing. This is some odd .mkv file.
