Hello everyone,
I've recently just found these forums and been following some of the guides on the site but have ran into a few problems.
I have a dvd from a friend, a 10 minute sports recording she wanted uploaded to google video.
I followed one of the guides to first get the video_ts files to a single movie file and that went ok, i used VOB2MPG and it produced a 350mb mpeg2 file i think, i successfully uploaded to google video but after processing it came up as failed and the only reason it gave was the its technical guidelines page Here
So i thought id try maybe converting that mpeg2 file to avi or some of the other type it mentions on that page, i download Vdubmod and have tried to save it out with various compressions h.263, mpeg-4 v3, and both xvids as without them the file becomes massive, well over 1gig. heres where the problem is, iam happy with the filesize these compressions output but on the right hand side of the video there is moving black boxes kind of like a loss of quality and distortion on the screen sometimes, i realize that when converting i'll have to lose some quality but there must be a way to do it so theres no distortion or visible marks on the video, any help would be appreciated thanks.

If your mpeg-4 and xvid files are coming out larger than an mpeg-2 VOB, you are definitely doing something wrong. Are you sure you are choosing the proper compression setting in VirtualDubMod before saving to AVI? Are you sure you are setting the best bitrate for the codec you are using? Take some more time to look through some of the guides on this site.

Sorry i meant the xvid and mpeg-4 are smaller yes but there is distortion on the right hand side of the screen and wondering what iam doing wrong, i just selected the compression and it comes out smaller size but as i mentioned earlier theres the black bits on the right hand side of the video and distortion in the main bit as well, it looks awful.
Bitrate is something i didnt do, just the compression. -
It could be two or three things. It might be your version of VirtualDubMod. (You may want to check out the VirtualDub-MPEG2 build, which is friendly with VOB files.) Or it might be a codec issue. Which version of the Xvid codec is installed? Or, it may simply be an issue with your video playback software. What are you viewing your finished files on?

Right ill check out that mpeg 2 version, would it be better to start from scratch or is the mpeg2 file i got from that vob converter ok to work with?
I installed the latest version of that xvid you linked to, but if you mean in virtual dub theres two with the exact same name xvid mpeg-4 codec only difference is there fourcc name but dont know if that makes a difference or not.
Yea to rule a playback issue out i got VLC player quite a while ago and its been great, its never let me done, but i also tested on winamp which i normally use as well as VLC player. If i save it out as avi again in virtual dub having installed the latest xvid you linked, will it make a difference when i select the xvid mpeg-3 codec as compression? Is it worth trying it again as i've downloaded that, it just seemed to install some software but unsure as to how to check the version of it i have.
