Okay, I used to use nero exclusively for converting my captured mpeg2 files and burning to DVD.
But I've been having a large number of bad burn issues and the disks will hang and then be out of synch
with the audio. Then I read here that imgburn is a much better tool to use.

So I download and install it, run the "build" on my mpeg2 file, which then creates an ISO file. I think, hey this
is slick, only because I am ignorant. I then try to burn the iso file to disk and it creates an mpeg2 file on the disk.

Now, do I need to convert the iso file to VOBs or do I need to do some other conversion of the mpeg2 before I
can burn with the imgburn tool.

What is the relation between VOBs, ISOs and mpeg2 files? Please forgive me if this is explicitly explained in another
forum. I've been looking for a few hours and can't seem to find the answer.

  2. Hi-

If you are trying to make a true DVD, you should do that before trying to burn. ImgBurn is, as the name implies, a burning-to-disc application. It doesn't author to DVD. If all you have is an MPEG, you have to create the IFOs, BUPs, and VOB files first. And you don't need an ISO at any stage. Once you have a DVD on the hard drive (and the AUDIO_TS AND VIDEO_TS files), ImgBurn is capable of burning that directly, without the creation of an ISO.

Yeah, you are skipping a step. You are trying to burn an MPEG-2 directly to disc, without first making it DVD-compliant. There is an intermediate step: authoring. Look for a DVD authoring program under the Tools section. The authoring software will take your MPEG-2 video, plus any menus, etc., and then it will set up the VOBs, BUPs, and IFOs in a structure that is playable on any DVD player. It will place everything nicely into a VIDEO_TS folder. THEN you can burn it to disc using ImgBurn.

Thanks manono and filmboss80. I immediately went to the tools and downloaded the first DVD authoring program
    that I found.

Simple DVD Creator. It did not have any review yet, but I said, WTF, and got it anyway. It can incorporate
cutteraman or some German editor "mpeg2schnit" (?) and imgburn. Since I had neither editor, I only incorporated
    imgburn.

And it worked great. Now I think I will install cutteraman and reinstall the DVD creator to include it as well.
