    Hello there,
    Just a few quick questions.
    1. When i capture from my dv cam and turn the file into an avi the screen size is 360x240. When useing tmpgenc and converting to an mpeg do i have to keep to the same size to keep the quailty ie instead of useing 352x240 ntsc or 352x288 pal?
    2. When i convert ntsc(avi) to pal(mpeg) useing tmpgenc do i have to convert the sound or does tmpgenc do it all for me?
    3. Once ive converted to mpeg useing tmpgenc(and the above method) am i ready to burn a vcd?
Or am i on the wrong track all together
    Thanks!!

To avoid player incompatibilities you should let TMPGEnc (or another program) resize the video to the 352x240/288. required for VCD.

As long as TMPGEnc can recognise the sound format of the avi it will encode the sound for you. Some sound formats such as those commonly used with DivX require the sound do be decompressed first. Try a sample section.. it will probably be OK.

Unless you want to put in chapters, menus etc.. you can use any good burning program such as Nero to create a VCD from the mpeg file.

If the source is NTSC then by far the easiest option is to create an NTSC VCD. (i.e. 352x240)

If your standalone player supports only PAL then follow this guide to solve your NTSC -> PAL conversion troubles.

Hey bunster, I'm a Brit too...

In fact many DVD players in the UK support NTSC so you may not have to go to any trouble at all.. just encode the source file as an NTSC VCD.
