Radio Shack or an electronics supply store should be able to set you up with a manual A/B switch to handle the task.

  5. Pay attention to the connector types and numbers. The switch that Video Head pointed out only does stereo via mini pin-plugs.

Yup. That's what most sound cards in PC's and amplified computer speakers have. You can also get A/B switches for unbalanced 3 pin XLR if that is your requirement.

Yes, but a 5.1 system may be using SPDIF, optical, or multiple sets of pin plugs.

For pin plug to RCA connectors yes. My 4.1 speaker system connects to the computer with a pair of stereo pin plug cables. You would need two of those switch boxes to handle that.

My KVM has audio. I use one set of speakers, one monitor, one mouse, one keyboard -- 3 separate computers.

There are multitudes of switchers and switchboxes being built. They can handle just about any input and output. Some can convert unbalanced to balanced, some are fully automatic, some manual and some use remote controls and triggers. Some go into wallplates to control A/V throughout an entire multiroom installation. Some cost $10, some cost $1,000's...

The OP's question was can this be done...the short answer is yes, an A/B switch will accomplish this.

They were then pointed in the direction of an example. Without knowing what exact connectors they have or will have or might buy in the future it is impossible to say exactly which one. Googling on their own might help to find the exact one they need. The OP is going to have to put in at least a minimal amount of effort. I suggest going to an electronics supply store and explain to the man that you "need an A/B audio switch to accomplish (insert specific needs here)".

Just to toss another option into the confusion, this $39.99 mixer allows you to use normal analog pots to mix and eq the sound from your computers, TV, DVD player, CD player etc. to one amp.

Best to learn how to solder so you can avoid paying $$ for all the cables.
