Is there a setting in capturing software for aspect ratio? I captured some DV into an avi file using my dvd studio. I have used this program many times capturing 4:3 footage. This time it is widescreen. Where would this setting have been changed? Camera? I couldnt find any setting on the software.

If you mean DV over IEEE-1394, wide is determined in the camcorder before the video is shot. Some cheaper camcorders output letterbox but most output full height, horizontally compressed wide format with a normal transfer if the video was shot wide.Originally Posted by Dr.Gee

The resolution is the same for 4:3 and 16:9 DV footage and it is not uncommon for there to be no A/R flag in the avi (or for editing software to ignore it if there is). Just go ahead edit and make sure you select 16:9 A/R when you encode and it should play back fine.
