  1. Hi all,

First and formost, this is my first post on this Forum, so i i break a few rules then sorry in advance. My question is simple. Does anyone know how to play wmvs from my external harddrive on the playstation 3? First, I had to change the file formatiom of my USB 160GB Firelight from FAT32 to USB, so i could save serenity.wmv (10GB) to it. I guess FAT32 has a 4GB size limitation for files, so i converted my HDD to NTFS. The movie saved fine. I plugged in my HDD to my PS3 via USB port, but my PS3 wouldn't read it because of it being NTFS. The PS3 reads FAT32 with no problem, but will not read NTFS (probably because Microsoft invented the File System and Sony and Microsoft hate each other). So that's my dilema!!!If i leave my file system FAT32 then the PS3 will read my movies and even play .wmvs, but they have to be under 4GB due to the constraints of FAT32. If I use NTFS, i can make the movie as big as i want, but the PS3 will not read it. Please help!!!

The only solution is to cut your big files, you can cut the WMV with for example ASFBin or Cut Assistant. Or else must you waaaaait for NTFS support or run linux on the PS3 or stream from a PC using TVersity.

Moving you to our Media Center section and the subject should be more like why doesn't the PS3 support NTFS...

  4. Also the PS3 has a Gigabit ethernet port, you could stream it from a Windows machine with WMP11 or a Windows Server.
