Question about + or - DVD media

My new Dell computer has a CD-ROM/DVD: TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-H653B.

What I need to know, since I am such a newbie when it comes to DVDs and such, is if I can use either DVD - or DVD + to burn for my stand alone DVD player connected to my television?

If so, yes it will write to + or - media. Of course the brand of DVD media may determine the results. Use a good brand and you should have no problems most times.

And your player is also part of this. It may depend on what brand and type of media it likes best.

You can look up both your burner and probably your player, and different DVD media brands, along with some user comments about media for each to the left in DVD Writers, DVD Players and DVD Media. <<<<<<

What media would you suggest for burning DVDs and such? I use and like Sony CD-Rs. Of course I have never used this burner with them yet but it plays what I had burned before with my music CDs and data CDs.

I usually recommend Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden brand media. But Sony DVDs seem popular, also.

One thing to note is that DELL has a habit of using their own firmware and in the case of the LG drives they've used in the past the drives functionality is usually crippled.

The drive can be crossflashed to the SAMSUNG firmware but as always it would void the warranty with DELL.
