I have been trying to put vcd onto dvdr for about 2 days after a lot of messing about I have managed it. But when i author the mpeg with dvdit i get the following error after about a hour of it changing files.
could not compltet the last command because : The GOP structure in the cell starting 00:00:00:00 in PGC "pres3" could not be broken into VOBUs
Anybody know what is wrong??????? and maybe a fix?????
The mpeg must be ok as i have burned it with video pack 5 and it works in my standalone but i like dvdit and would like to be able to use that.
Thanx

I am having the exact same problem. Except in my error message, it says "pres 25." I notice that if I delete movie # 25 from my project (or unlink the button to it) the error then says "pres 24." If I then delete movie # 24 it says "pres 23." But there is no movie # 23 in my project. I don't know what to do. I have seen a post about this somewhere where the person said that instead of the error message saying "pres (#)", it said "movie (#)." I don't know if that gives you any clues as to how to figure out this problem. If you find anything out, please post here and let me know. I will do the same. (Out of frustration I got SpruceUp, but it does not let you put music into your menus, so it is out of the question for me.)

I am getting the same error message "the GOP structure in the cell starting at 00:00:00:00 in PGC "pres 3" couold not be broken into VOBUs" If anyone has an answer to this problem it would be greatly appreaciated as DVDit is the only DVD authoring software that I have gotten working right. SpruceUP crashes every time I try to choose chapters. Thanks

Guys:
I've never had that problem in DVDit, but I guess it points to the movie you are using for first play. Check your links to see if they correspond to their right assets first.
Then open your asset and check your chapter pointers. More likely to me your first pointer is out of range, or you changed it somewhere after you linked it to a button, or it is to close to another chapter pointer. Maybe you have two overlapped chapter pointers. Chapter pointers must not be made over an I-frame. So try to move your pointer to the previous or next frames and check again.
Check also for a bad compressed file, or a mixed data rate into it. This happens when you compress your chapters separately and merge them into one large file on TMPGenc.
Also check you converted your audio stream to 48000 Hz, as this is the DVD standard, even though your video is at vcd specs. (mpeg1 vcd video stream is dvd compliant, 44100 Hz audio is not)
Check also for a missing file, and last but not least, check your menu assets format are fully compatible with dvdit (It hates some TIF variations, for example). In this industry, Sadly, The future was yesterday. -
I tried everything you said and still no luck. I am using a movie that was encoded at 352 X 480. The audio is 48k but for the hell of it I tried it at 41k and DVDit didn't complain. Everything tests out fine and I am trying to get it to work without and extras. I have no chapters set up and still I get the error. I can't delete chapter 1 and that seems to be the one causing the error becasue the message says it is at 00:00:00:00. My GOP structure is set up in TMPEGenc as IBBPBBPBBPBBPBBPBB. Which based on what you said Chapter 1 would be over the I frame since it is first. I am not sure how to change the GOP structure without messing things up but I will research it to see if removing the I at the beginning of the GOP structure will fix the problem. If you you have any other insight into this problem it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

PROBLEM SOLVED
I stayed up most of the night addressing this problem and I found a solution that works for me. The issue seems to have been in the GOP structure. I don't know what to do if you already have an already encoded video other than re-encoding it (what a pain) but if you want to encoded it now here is how I set up TMPGEnc to get DVDit to work. First I would click load and choose SVCD Film, then load the unlock template. Under Settings -> Video I set the size to 352 X 480 for NTSC so I don't have to patch the file, DVDit will just accept it as is. I went with a 2-pass VBR and the Bit rate doesn't seem to matter. The only setting I changed was I set the DC compenent to 9 bit precision instead of the SVCD standard 8. DVD's encoded by TMPGEnc default to 9. I then used the following GOP structure for my SVCD:
IBBPBBPBBPBBPBBP
Number of I: 1
Numbder of P: 5
Number of B: 2
Output Intercal of sequence header: 1
MAX number of frames in a GOP: 18
Check: output bitstream for edit (Closed GOP)
Check: Detect Scene Change
No Check: Force picture type setting
The main change from standard SVCD is the MAX number of frames is set to 18 instead of the default 0 (for NTSC, I think it is 15 for PAL). I then set my audio from the start to 48K Hz with a bitrate of 224 just to make life easier. Everything else in DVDit I did just like the guide on VCDhelp. Good luck with it I hope this helps those out their with this problem. -
crisp,
Have you tried not checking Closed GOP? Using Closed GOP seems to increase the file size a bit. I would like to know if this option is really necessary for being compatible with DVDIt. -
No I haven't. I did fine something on a web sight that related to a Closed GOP. The sight recomended that you close the GOP for compatibility with DVD authoring software because some software requires it. I would think that DVDit would work without it though. I will let you know when I do try it as that will be my next test. Good luck with it.
