I am trying to make a compilation DVD with chapters from multiple DVDs, but am having problems fitting the clips onto a single DVD.

Each group of chapters was extracted with DVDFab and placed into separate folders.

I then ran DVDShrink on each to reduce the size of the file(s). At this point total size of all files is about 2.3 GB.

When 're-assembling' the clips with Click2DVD, I cannot get more than about two hours on the DVD. The size of the files does not seem to matter. As a test I ran DVDShrink twice on the files. Even with the smaller files, there was no change in how much I can fit on the DVD.

I had hoped to extract the segments, reduce the size of the files, and re-author multiple segments onto a single DVD. There is something I am not looking at correctly, I just don't know what it is...

Can anyone give me a nudge in the right direction?

    Thank you!

Take a look in the HOW TO - Author section for guides. There are several that cover what you are trying to do.

Your current problem is likely the result of your software choice (Click2DVD). Most software such as this for the casual user wants to encode all of your video to meet DVD spec. A standard DVD holds 2 hours of video...regardless of the input file sizes. You need to concentrate on TIME not file SIZE.

There are ways around this, with a reduction in quality, which doesn't seem to be an issue since you are running the files through DVDShrink. But you need to use different/better software that allows more control over the video.

  3. Author it first, I would advise using something different, then Shrink the final compilation. That IS what you want to fit, right?

  4. You should able to use DVDshrink to manage the size/quality of the segements of these video, total to less than 90% of a DVD+/-R disc.

Authoring program likes TMPGenc DVDauthor, will add about 10% or less of overhead, with decent menu, and compilation.
