I do not see a seperate section for video discussion so I'm posting here![]()
My understanding is that, when you press rewind/fast forward button of the remote of a DVD player, the player will find nearest key frame and rewind/FF in steps of key frames of the given mpeg-2 video file <--- Is this correct? (Please scream NO if wrong)
Assuming it is correct, is this same for the HD DVD player? In other words, HD-DVD player will also look for nearest key frame of the VC-1 or H.264 video file and hop in steps of key frames? Or is there more advanced rewind/FF scheme incorporated such as, "If key frames are spaced wider than 10 second gap, then key frame is ignored and rewind/FF in 10 second steps"
And another question is, does EVO(EVOB) has any say on the rewind/FF behavior?
And yet another question is ---> Does SMIL have a say on rewind/FF behavior?
Thanks for reading. Have a great day!

Most DVD players produced in the last 3 years or so will do true frame by frame fast forward on the first increment, and then start to skip by keyframes as the increments go up. My DVD recorder will do 2 x with audio frame by frame, and doesn't start using keyframes until around 8x.
