In my opinion - Yes - Absolutely. Verbatim MIT media is produced at facilities owned by CMC and Prodisc but all materials and technology come from Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation. They adhere to MCC quality control measures rather than CMC or Prodisc standards of quality. It is basically a situation where MCC technology and materials are used and they lease the manufacturing capacity. Maxell, on the other hand; outsources their production to manufacturers that stick Maxell's name, packaging, etc on their own product. Maxell MIT media could be any of the following media types:
    ProdiscF02 - RITEKF1 - CMC MAG.M01 - PHILIPS.C16 - RICOHJPNR03
and thats just 16x media. Maxell may force stricter quality control but I'm not certain of that. I also find firmware support for MCC/MKM media to be very good with most all burners but that could be my imagination.
