I know there are better JVC’s but this one fit my budget several years ago and has worked fine.

I have used this to successfully transfer many VHS tapes, mostly old music concerts and video.

When played on my old Toshiba, many of these tapes had annoying lines that would slowly roll thru the picture. Anyone that has transferred VHS probably knows what I mean. My JVC handled this particular condition very nicely and eliminated this annoyance.

My issue now is a clip someone already authored to DVD. It is apparent that the VCR used did not have anything to filter this out.

Can my JVC be used has a pass-thru device to re-capture this video in the hopes that the internal filters will eliminate or reduce this problem?

Or – is the filtering only done when a physical VHS tape is being used and not during any pass-thru?

If it cannot be done this way, can anyone suggest a good avisynth filter?

    Thanks

HR-S2901U does not have any filters to help you. You need to upgrade your selection for SVHS VCR playback. From 67xx-99xx are the ones with great filters...76xx-99xx are the ones with filters & tbc.

    Thanks for your reply.

Perhaps "filters" was not the proper term.

The term the manual uses is 'Video Stabilizer" - used to automatically correct vertical vibrations in the picture when playing back unstable recordings made on another VCR.

Either way - the manual seems to answer my questions as it states "during Playback".

Whatever it is, it definitely "fixes" some tapes but sounds like it would not help during pass-thru.

I'll look around for some Avisynth filters.

On my JVC 9500U they do not pass thru. They are playback only. The playback can be recorded of course.

Video Stabilizer will stabilize video so it won't having shaky video per say , it should be good for VHS pass thru. If you a better stabilizer most DVD recorder have them.....
