    Hello,

    can somboddy help my how to capture from my old Samsung HI 8 camcorder to my pc.
    What program do I need, the best!
    Codec!
    Any filters!

  2. 1-a svhs player would be good with a tbc/nr (then you buy a special tape to put your hi8 tape in so the vcr will be able to play it)

    2- a capture card(chipset philips preferably) depending on your configuration too

    3- well for the software i use virtual vcr which to me is the best to capture vhs and it's free

    4- a good wire gold plated if possible and short(75 cm or less)

    A Hi8 camcorder outputs normal PAL video so you capture it same as a broadcast with any PAL capture device. For best results, capture to uncompressed or huffyuv for post filtering and editing. Encode to MPeg2 as the last step.

    Some Digital8 camcoders have Hi8 playback capability. These will directly play Hi8 to the IEEE-1394 port for DV format capture at the computer.

    Some MiniDV or Digital8 camcorders have "analog pass-through" that allows the camcoder to act as a analog PAL to DV format transcoder.
