I have been trying to convert videos to the format my digital camera uses so that perhaps I could play them back on the digital camera. Problem is I get terrible audio (scratchy..) or terrible audio + video that lags/pauses or is split on the screen horizontally.
The format specs for digital photo camera is (retrieved using gspot) (from one of the
clips taken with the camera):
File Length Correct
AVI v1.0
Video: 2.01 MB (97.66%)
Audio: 19.0 KB (0.90%)
AVI Overhead: 30.3 KB (1.44%)
User Data / Metadata (varies)
[JUNK] LFzg5f4
[JUNK] Dv3oP.
[JUNK] 2zniccm5b
[JUNK] jsiwk4d
[JUNK] NEO1 i
Audio : 0x0011 (DVI ADPCM) 8000Hz 32 kb/s (1 chnl)
Video : MJPG
640 x 480 30 fps (varies by a bit often - such as 30.173 vs. 30.014)
4:3 ratio
So I have tried to replicate this, got all the codecs installed (Morgan MJPEG).
Tried using VirtualDub by itself but video playback on camera leaves it split in horizontally
(probably my fault due to some option I overlooked) - audio scratchy.
Then I downloaded a trial version of YASA 3GP Video Converter - which will acurately convert
to AVI MJPEG format, audio scratchy. So now video 'appears' to work fine but the problem could still be there.. Well then I tried exporting sound using VirtualDub (original sound to wav) converted it to DVI ADPCM 8kHz 32kb/s 1 mono, and used YASA program to get video alone converted. After that I slapped together the video and audio without processing using VirtualDub and saved the AVI file using the 'save as old avi format'. Placed it onto the camera - still no luck with sound - although it sounds fine on windows xp using windows media player.
Here is what gspot returns on that video result:
File Length Correct
AVI v1.0
Video: 2.95 MB (98.95%)
Audio: 19.0 KB (0.62%)
AVI Overhead: 13.1 KB (0.43%)
Metadata
[JUNK] VirtualDub build 27021/release
0x0011 (DVI ADPCM) 8000Hz 32 kb/s (1 chnl)
MJPG
640x480 30.014fps 4:3ratio
So the only thing that appears to be different is the "User data / Metadata" and I have no idea if that could be causing problems with sound and casual video/audio playback problem - pauses or lags..
Sorry about the lengthy post but I just tried to post all the info regarding the problem. I don't know if I should be posting here or elsewhere (1st time posting - long time visitor lol maybe not long enough). If anyone has any suggestions or perhaps a solution - please let me know. Thank you in advance,
Snuke
P.S. the camera is Centrios DSC-6435M capable of taking photos (JPEG), videos (AVI MJPEG), and sound, as well as mp3 playback.

if it was me I would convert it to fit my cellphone, QVGA 320*240
much simpler conversion than converting to MJPEG
or simply get some other portable video device, ipod ,zune etc
have you tried naming these files exactly like the ones created by the camera
have you done a look see at the cameras videos and your converted videos with a HEX editor to comparethe file header structure -
Did anyone ever tell you you could download video to such a device? If so what format did they advise?

Thanks for the suggestions theewizard. I am not sure if QVGA will work or not, but will try. To answer the question whether I have named them correctly - I have renamed them to the specific format PIC_####.avi which got them to play in a buggy way. I hope the header information will solve the problem, will let you know how it goes (don't have much time at the moment but will post a reply as soon as I try it out).
To answer that last question - no one has implied or said anything about downloading the files to it but no one implied otherwise so I thought I would give it a shot, squeeze a bit more out of it if possible (since it is so easy to test it out - due to it using an SD card it is easy to transfer files back and forth).
Thanks again for the helpful replies.
