    hi everybody was wondering if anyone knows of any
    free software i can use to extract a .rar file.
    i've only got the one file to do so i dont want to pay for
    software. if free software isn't available is there
    anything with a trial period that i could use ?

    There are plenty of free unarchivers out there that can handle .RAR archives. I use IZArc and 7-Zip. If you're looking just for an extractor, there's also ExtractNow, and the RAR creators offer a command-line 'unrar' (/unrar32) utility at their site.
