    hello everyone,

well i have a firewire card and a sony dsr-45 vtr and a sony pd-170 camera , i want to capture video via the firewire card(windows detects my vtr & camera perfectly) and i want to stream it with some software via internet to a different location on the internet where it can be captured or stored again

    any suggestions related to this??

  2. Two questions:

    1. Do you want to do this live? i.e., capture and stream at the same time?
    2. Do you want to stream in DV format or some other video format?

If the answer to 2. is DV format, you'll need to be able to stream at >25Mbps (probably twice that). There is an existing IP protocol for streaming DIF-based data (which DV is).

For other video formats, you can get webcam software that should work with FireWire DV camcorders.

  4. A quick Google: http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&newwindow=1&as_qdr=all&q=mpeg2+live+stream

    found this (plus many more):

    http://www.videomediasolutions.com/dr_drc500.html

It's about $995 for MPEG1/2 encoding + another $395 for the MPEG2 streaming. You'd connect the analog outputs of your DV cam to it.

Why not just copy the file (~28Mb/s DV or 6-8Mb/s MPreg2) to the other location?

Depends on the connection speed. A 13GB (1 hr) DV file should copy at ~3x (20min) or better on a typical business internet connection.

well i actually have 1Mbps of upload speed so i would love it if the video can be captured and streamed as an mpeg or any other compressed format
