    Hello,

I want to edit out commercials from downloaded .wmv files and convert to mpeg2 afterwards (DVD authoring). The files are (unfortunately) corrupted at times, audio/video errors now and then, so I get problems in the first-class encoders like CCE, with AviSynth-Script (DirectShowSource()).

I found WinAvi Video Converter to be well in encoding 'over' the corrupted parts and keeping synch, but I like to retain the perfect picture-quality (apart from those very small "glitches").

I tried NERO Vision and like the resulting picture-quality very much, but the video-bitrate is not correctly kept during the process and the file has to be patched for authoring. Also the audio-bitrate can not be chosen, BUT a/v-synch is great.

    So my questions:
    1. Would you recommend settings in VirtualDub-MPEG2 for saving after edit?
    2. Has anyone additional suggestions how to deal fast and easy 8) with such files?

    Thanks.

Maybe try edit with asfbin, it can cut without reencoding. Then convert.

If it wont work you can edit virtualdub-mpeg2 and frameserve to your video encoder, www.videohelp.com/virtualdubframeserve or export to dv-avi.

    Fast answer!

I would like to cut precisely, I tried asfbin and it cut at keyframes only (also AsfTools). I know about frameserving (s.a.) and f.-serving with VirtualDub, but if frameserving is neccessary, I rather like using AviSynth, as it is MUCH faster. Yet that way the synch-problem occurs.

But if I use one of the "all-in-one"-tools for encoding, since they seem to be able to keep synch and still do the job comparatively fast, I would like to spare precious hours by cutting the unwanted parts...

Try Asfbin V. 1.5 or later, with option -rkf it can cut at non-Keyframe positions. GUI for Asfbin: Cut Assistant

BiggerJoin: Please stop dig up so many old topics. We all know that asfbin can cut at non-keyframes now.
