As I recorded a MPEG-movie file with my WinTV PVR-250 the file did not load into collection in my Movie Maker 2.1. The software encountered an unrecognized problem and did not load the file at all.
This situation has occured several times with different files. However there has been some HW problems in between, but I've solved them and my computer now works properly.
Could anyone be able to help?

I think you have you vga mixed up with your capture device ... update your pc specs please .
Open movie maker , and remove any old project's that actually nolonger exist ... it confuses the crap out of it .
The first thing that cause's windows movie maker to run foul or any other video editing tool belly up , is poor quality video driver's for you graphic's card ... locate an update driver packed and install it , reboot .
Check for an update driver package for you motherboard ... via provides an all-in-one package ... sis might as well ... intel is a bit slow at this ... reboot after .
Also clean out the pc ... dust build up .
Scan disk , defrag after .
Clear out the junk from pc ... old recordings nolonger required ... the more freespace the system has , the less hassle it has to search for thing's .
And run this , and reboot : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Try clip's after all this is completed ... and repost here ... dont go making second post's ... it's not liked . -
Add to that, WMM is prone to crash if you as much as sneeze - And really Bjs - what on earth would dust have to do with the specific issue "WMM crashes when I open mpg files"?
I'd put that along with the tip to empty the ash tray to fix my car misfiring between 2.700 and 3.000 rpm when I run on Shell gas.

Pc system's are temperamental at the best of time's ... and everything falls back to basic hardware running at optimal level's before any diagnostic's can be carried out properly ... that's why it's a good idea to check out for dust related issue's within the pc's casing before hand that might be the cause of any heat issue's that can also contribute to common problem's that the end user may not be fully aware of .
You also have to recall the issue of what happen's if the heatsink compound between the cpu and heatsink develope's a faulty
Any technical expert would know this as a fact ... and if they dont ... they should get the hell out of I.T service's .

As for "crash" in wmm ... what are those ... I have never experienced those on my current system ... the program is extremely stable without issue here when dealing with mpeg .
On my old athlon 2800 xp ... it had it's issue's at time's that drove me nutt's , which I still have ... so the information I may supply come from experience collected from older system's I have owned or worked upon over time . -
Yes, I don't disagree with it's a good thing to clear out the dust from your computer innards from time to time, just as it is to empty the ash trays. But it's general house keeping - not a cure to a specfic problem. (Unless you'd consider overheating a specific problem)

Might I direct you to part of the original post as including : "However there has been some HW problems in between"
We have no idea as to how these problem's might have occurred , and need to determine why this was in order to determine what the true issue is now that they are experiencing , as it may not be actually be an issue with wmm .
Therefore , "house keeping" as you call it need's to be confirmed first no matter what .
You can mess about applying quick fix's / patch's / trick's , ... cleaning all the ashtray's you like , and still not get to the underlying problem that contributed to the current issue . -
Along with the HW problems the interior of my PC case was thoroughly vacume cleaned. At this point there is no dust visble to my eye.
The problems with HW was a broken HDD and that has now been replaced with a brand new one. After that the system has been very stable, but the WMM has not been up the standards with other programs.10-pin Bowling is for winter indoor amusement,

Good to hear it's been fixed - but WMM was never "up the standards with other programs" IMO. I save at least every 5 minutes when I use it, not to lose too much when (not if) it crashes/freezes.
