    Hi,

I appreciate that the complexity of a lot of these tools is to allow the user the maximum level of creativity in his or her projects, etc.

However, let me say this to begin with: I'm not ever going to want to change sound synching - I want the sound as it was on File A to be the same on File B.

I have mpg files that I want to cut (not just split in half) so I can specify a start and end time, then convert said section to an avi file, so I can then use DVDXConvertor to convert them to DVD format.

Is this so much to ask? I'm not sure if there's a simpler way of doing it, but hey I'd love to know.

I tried converting using a programme, virtual dub. I'm not sure if I was using the write tool.

It let me specify start and end points, excellent. So far so good. Then 'save as AVI'.

    Perfect, yes?

No, cos the output file (and bear in mind the mpg file was about 600mb) was about 8gb.

    WHY?

    WHY IS IT SO COMPLICATED?

    please help

You didn't set the compression, so the file was saved uncompressed, making it very, very, very big. You need to choose a video compressor codec before you save.

But, you can cut the Mpeg files directly using Mpg2cut2

For cutting them try Cutterman , if the MPEG files fall within the DVD specs you don't have to convert them at all. "DVD foramt" is just a MPEG that has to fall within specifications. Converting to a AVI then to DVD is a unesscary step that will also reduce the quality of the video. See what is DVD to the left.

If they fall with in the specs you only need an authoring application will not reencode the video.
