I've been using AviDemux forever but don't really know all that much about the intricate workings of it.....BUT my questions are simple.
    1) Does AviDemux come with x264 encoding abilities. I know my version has it but mine is old and don't know if I'm looking at that VFW codec I installed(for VirtualDub) or a built-in one.
    2) How can someone encode a video(with AviDemux) and copy exactly what HandBrake does with it's Apple iPhone & iPod Touch preset(no customizing).

A friend of mine uses Handbrake(on my recommendation) to encode files for her iPhone....but she would now like the ability to edit out dead video to make the videos more appealing while watching(I doubt her main concern is end-result file size) before creating the iPhone video.
I also see there is no .m4v-type of output option in AviDemux....

Any easy way to describe this process TO A NEWBIE would be greatly appreciated.....if it is possible at all. I also just use HandBrake's presets for my iPod touch as well.

Is it supposed to set the video and audio compression for you? It's doing nothing for me....by just using the presets I'm getting uncompressed video with PCM audio(same as my source).

Yes, it changes the video and audio codecs. Did you load the video file first?

Or maybe is freemake video converter easier to use. It can also cut out parts similar as avidemux, click on the scissor and set start and stop, cut.

OK....I just re-did it making sure to open the video file, then applied the preset and the compressions changed.
    THANK YOU Baldrick.
I cut all the time with AviDemux so I think it will be easier to explain the procedure to her with something I'm familiar with. I'll keep the other program in mind though.

Love that Gene Wilder. Did you see "Silver Streak"? Great movie.

Well, that's the only container I've been able to play without getting transcoded by iTunes. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
