    For just data, I use Folder2Iso. For video, ImgBurn. Both freeware. Most handy? I don't know.

    The answer can vary depending on what you are trying to do. The most handy iso creator, is most likely whatever burning app you already have installed in your pc. Most of the software you list above, can be used for editing/modifying iso's, but nothing special is needed for creating/burning them.

    I use Nero 6 Ultra Ed. to burn CDs and do not need other programs for this purposes. The only thing is Nero can no create ISO, so I need some dedicated ISO creator for this task.

    Nero certainly CAN do it (at least in version 7.x)

    * open Nero
    * select IMAGE RECORDER as output burner
    * select NEW and create your file/folder collection
    * hit the BURN button on the toolbar
    * set labels, etc on the burn compliation window and hit BURN again
    * on the SAVE IMAGE AS window, browse to required destination folder, type in a filename, and change the SAVE AS TYPE box from NRG to ISO

    Not clear from p3. Probably Nero7 differs from Nero 6.
    And I'm not sure i can do this with Nero. Not sure that ImgBurn can create ISO correctly. I tried it, but it have very poor help file, and, it seems, it intended to burn images, not create. It probably can build *from files on harddrive* rather than from CD media.
    Is there better programs that can do this task correctly?

    In "Build" mode, ImgBurn will create an ISO of *any* type of file on your hard disc. In "Read" mode, it can create an ISO from any un-protected DVD and, I think, CD. I've done this with a self-created DVD, but haven't tested it on any CD media. Download it and try it?

    Yes, creating an .ISO in "Read" Mode from CD works also. This option is not specified in official program description and specification. There are specified using ImgBurn mostly for DVD processing.

    Folder2ISO is incredibly simple. Check it out if you haven't already.

    Is there a particular reason you need an image file in iso format?

    ISO 9660 is a standard, preferable format. No particular reasons use alternatives.
