Hi folks, So at this point I've tried a Philips DVDR3455/37 and the Polaroid DMR 2001G.
Among the other quircks I've already posted, here's another one--is there no button on a DVDR that works the same as the VCR/TV button? On my old VCR, you push that button, and that allows the VCR to record one station, while I watch a different station through the TV. I get that you couldn't RECORD on two different stations, but surely there's a way to record on one station, while watching another at the same time?
Thanks

It's not needed.
Just push the chan. button your tv to watch something. Your recorder wont care even if its on & recording something. -
What is supposed to happen is that the RF signal is passed through the recorder to the co-ax RF output port. Unlike your VCR this is supposed to happen at all times because the recorder can't output something it has recorded (or tuned) on RF (such as channel 3) which is something your VCR could do. In other words your VCR had a built in RF modulator where this recorder does not. So it splits the signal input and ideally always sends a copy to the output jack. In my case this worked but not properly. It seemed as if all channels below whatever channel I had the DVD recorder tuned to would indeed be passed though, but other channels above it, wouldn't be. I suspect some form of LO leakage onto the RF signal but I never bothered to chase it down (or replace the unit) as I don't use the RF output in my present setup.Originally Posted by alfonsoalfonsis

If you have your DVR hooked up to your TV using AV cables, and not a coax, you should be able to start a recording on your DVR using its built-in tuner, and then simply switch the TV from AUX to its own internal tuner and watch anything else. This assumes that your incoming signal (cable?) is going through a splitter, and then hooked up directly to both the DVR and the TV. If you need a cable box to change channels, this may not work.Originally Posted by alfonsoalfonsis
