I have the the DVR-420-HS and love it, but I think it may be time for an upgrade. I would like to know if the DVR-640HS will play divx burned on DVDs. Or, does it only play on burned CDs? Is there any dvd recorders with a hard drive that will play divx on dvds? Thanks!

I think all divx players play both cd,and DVD divx. one thing I don't like about the 640 it doesn't have a firewire .its not an issue if you don't have a camcorder with ilink(firewire)

Hello, I have the Pioneer dvr-440hx and I have just noticed that it will only play DivX files from a DVD disc if they are or stored on the disc as files and not within a folder on the DVD as files.
Hope this is help -
Hmm, okay so no folders. I use AVI.net to make my dvix and the program spits out a movie file and idx/sub files separately. So I usually create folders. Lets say I burn 4 movies ont the dvd and all the files and sub files are out on the open, I guess the dvd player will sort things out by itself? As long as the sub files are named the same as it's movie file... you should be okay assume?Originally Posted by greenock_lad2000

I know what you mean, it is easier to set all the files into folders to keep it all nice and tidy. I will play with this idea of puting 4 movies onto a dvd with all the .srt files out in the open with no folders and see how it goes, will keep in touch.
