  1. Capturing device leadtek vc100
    Software Ulead Video Studio 10

I capture with ulead video studio to dvd mpeg format, PAL, LPCM Audio

    Which works fine.

Problem occurs when I Try to cut adverts or end credits out of tv show.

When I save the trimmed video It re renders the video into a much smaller and poor quality file i.. I start with a 4 gig file trim 2 mins of the end and save trimmed video which results in a 600mb file .
How can I trim the video without changing any format.

The other things is when i goto burn the disc it renders again even though I captured in dvd mpeg format ( this might be correct but not sure) ?

    Please advice me.

I'll try anything I just want to be able to record from tv and trim the adverts out and burn onto dvd

Use a mpeg video editor instead like videoredo, cuttermaran, mpeg-vcr, tmpgenc mpeg editor, mpeg video wizard(it also support advanced editing). They wont reencode the mpeg video and you wont lose any video quality.

And author and burn with a software that doesn't reencode like tmpgenc dvd author, gui or dvd author, dvd-lab.

  3. Thanks for help I tryed cutterman but my mpeg was not supported and tryed videredo but that had found errors.

But TMPGenc DVD Author worked excellent it converted to a dvd folder without rendering and the playback of the dvd video ts file on the pc is great exactly the same as the original captured mpeg.

Now Just need to burn I'm going to try using TMPGenc dvd author to burn.

And figure out how to cut several adverts out with tmpgenc and joining the frames back together.
    Thank you very much.

It sounds like you have the project settings wrong in Video Studio. If the software knows it is creating a DVD and your files are DVD compliant, there should be an option to not re-encode the video. I suspect you have to software set to creat a VCD or SVCD which is why it is reducing the file size and quality.

  6. I'm having a real problem with cutting captured mpeg files and saving them as the same format mpeg without rendering the video or audio

Ive tryed everything all the programs

TMPGenc DVD author cuts the file but only gives me choice of outputting to dvd folders

Ulead only gives me option to output to dvd or iso folder

Tmpenc mpeg editor after editing my mpeg file says it will convert the video lossless but audio will be rnderered .

All the other programs IE cutterman dont work for me either.

I just want to be able to cut 5 mins of the end of my captured mpeg file its a 5gig file then save it as the same format without any change and convert using autogk to xvid

    Please help

  7. Very Happy now a 100% success

capturing hardware leadtek vc100 ahtlon xp 1800, 512mb

I previously tryed all the capturing methods i found on this site and doom9 including capturing with huffy codec and virtual vcr etc but found capturing at 720x576 to much for my hardware and besides the output file is gigantic and the whole process is alot longer

This is what worked for me,

Captured using ulead Video mpeg dvd 720x576 pal 8000 variable bitrate
audio mpeg 128bit mono instead of lpcm audio

80 mins vhs video resulting in a 4.27gig file which fits onto a dvd+r 4.7gb

Converted into a dvd folder using TMPGenc Dvd Author.

Which doesnt render anything and only takes 10mins

Burned the video_ts folder using Imgburn took approx 20mins

And played backed on a old sony dvd player perfectly without any choppy frames.

The outcome looks as good as the original to me.

Very pleased thanks for all the help on this forum and for the great guides.

PS the Media I used was TDK DVD+R 16x blue top disk and burned at 2x

The TDK DVD+R and DVD-R are the best discs i've used
they work on my sony dvd player, my brothers pioneer dvd player, my yamada divx player, xbox thomson drive which i use the dvd-r and brothers xbox phillips drive.
