    Hello,

    Name's Alex.

I watch a lot of videos online of people playing video games or making amvs and I would like to be able to hook my DCR-TRV280 directly to my receiver to record me playing my video games DIRECTLY to the camera.

Not just point the camera at the tv screen and hit record because that is just crap.

How do I go about doing this?

Would I be better off getting a different camera? If so what kind?

If you could please reply to my e-mail that would be great.

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking, but it sounds like you want to capture your video screen while you are playing a game. You don't need a camera for that.

Try Fraps. And there may be some freeware programs that can do similar. I'll let someone else suggest alternatives.

    And welcome to our forums.

    To record my console games?

I really think I should just go out and buy a camera like this.

It's able to do what I want. All I want to do is plug my camcorder into some source and record what I'm playing off of my gaming systems like my Gamecube, PS2, Wii, Xbox, straight onto it. That way I can transfer what is now on the camcorder onto the computer.

I had assumed you meant computer games. If your game console has a video output, you may be able to record that. You may be able to split the video, depending on what you are viewing the game on and record it that way.

  5. A VCR does what you're trying to do. (Except easily move the recording to a PC.)

Some camcorders can record from an A/V input.

Another pretty simple solution would be to record to a standalone DVD Recorder. Then pop the disc in your PC's DVD drive. Any number of ways to go from there. TMPGEnc for example, that's what I use to make PC-based videos (WMVs for example) from DVD content.
