  1. I am considering upgrading MMC 7.1 to 7.6.
I`m just a bit concerned as i heard that the MMC 7.2 and above were designed for the Radeon Chipset.
The ATI site still has 7.1 as the official download for my card.

Anyone tried the AIW 128 Pro with 7.2 or above ?? does it work properly ?

If it does, does 7.6 split MPEG2 captures to get round the 4gig limit in Win 98SE ? or is it just AVI caps it can split ?

Where can i get hold of 7.6 ?

    Hope someone can help !

  2. Do the upgrade, it works great.

MMC 7.6 works great for me with the AIW pro 32 meg card. I've tested it in 98se, win2k and winxp without a problem. You should see a significant increase in quality in real time mpeg2 captures after the upgrade. I personally feel that ATI discourages the move to MMC 7.6 with an AIW pro 32 because they would prefer you to upgrade your card to a Radeon (+$). Give it a try, it should work fine as it has for me.

    My advice is as follows:

    1. Install MMC 7.6

    2. If the TV icon does not appear or gives you problems then search this board using my screen name "next' and install the dll's I have suggested in previous posts.

    3. I have found that cbr captures at 2.51mps or 2.57mps will give excellent quality. I'm not a fan of vbr captures under MMC 7.x because you cannot set a minimum or maximun mps. With 2.51 or 2.57 cbr you should get close to 40 minutes on an 800 meg cdr.

    4. Run your captures through Mpeg2vcr to gain SVCD compliancy. It only takes a few minutes.

    5. Cut and edit to fit the cdr of your choice (Mpeg2vcr). Burn your SVCD in the burning program of your choice. I use Nero. It works.

    6. Optional - get a multi tray DVD player. Saves the hassle associated with changing a disk.

I have noticed that MMC 7.6 is so good that I have a hard time telling the difference between a MMC 7.6 capture and a DVD rip. At least as it relates to a casual observer (I can see a difference but most viewers cannot). As a matter of fact I watched a movie recently and was convinced it was a rip and was suprised ( way surpised) that it was a capture. Had no idea while viewing (32 inch TV).

For those of you who gave up on ATI give it a try - amazed here.

But source matters ....make sure it is clean.

  3. Just reread the thread - I was focussing my comments on Mpeg2 and SVCD captures. Sorry if that was not clear.

Also - get Stinky's tool! And check out the credits. Thanks Stinky - I've been way too busy to help. You are a gentleman and a scholar - great work!
