    Hi,

Am using a Winfast A180DDR VIVO all-in-one video, tv tuner and video capture card. All the channels are tuned just fine with a great picture. Except one, which (as shown below) has high angle "stripes".

Would appreciate any suggestions/comments as to what may be causing and/or how the stripes could be reduced/got rid of.

    Thanks,

    Geoff.

A better aerial or a better tuned aerial, or a digital settop box

    Hi,

    Thanks for the rapid reply.

The channel that is "misbehaving" is equally as good as the other channels on TVs elsewhere in the house, it is just on the PC that this particluar channel looks like this, while all other channels display just fine on the PC.

I have a signal amplifier in the system. Could it be either too much or too little gain from the amplifier?

    Regards,

    Geoff.

  4. Did you split the TV signal ? This can be caused by a stud, that's a particular channel carrier is reflected back as a destructive signal.

Move this TV tuner to the head of the signal source, with NO tee or spilter at all, and try again.

Yes, the TV signal is split. Whilst difficult in a text message, the RF signal goes like this:

antenna signal -> foxtel cable settop box -> vcr -> amplifier (with 4 outputs) -> distributed to house (including several TVs and the PC).

Will try connecting the PC at the source, ie: ahead of the vcr, etc.

    Thanks again.

It's a RF problem. Could be the tuner, too hot a signal level or co-channel interference.

It does indeed appear to be an RF problem. It looks like ingress. Make sure all your 'F' connectors, splitters cables and amplifiers are of a quality make, properly installed and tightened. It could be RF noise generated anywhere leaking into the cable. BTW, what channel number is it? That can be a clue as to the source.

Thank you to all offering help, is much appreciated.

The channel in question is #37 (in the Australian system), in case it allows easier understanding, the frequency is 590,312,500 hz. The nearest tuned channels are #28 and #44.

What is puzzling is that these stripe artifacts are not visible on any of the TVs, just the PC.

RF being generated inside the case ? If the tuner on the card isn't protected well enough, the RF generated inside the PC could be getting in.

Look for a fine tuning control under tuner setting presets.

Once again, thanks for all the suggestions. I will have a go at all and report back - it may be some time, as I am about to travel on business. So, don't take lack of response as lack of interest or appreciation.
