I have some high quality VOB files. I need to convert them to a different file type because Vegas 5 doesn't seem to be able to read them. Along with mpg2. I tried the VOB2MPG2 program but Vegas 5 wouldn't read it. So i'm assuming the program was not doing it's job right..or Vegas 5 doesn't read mpg2. So I need a program that will convert the files to another format (preferably high quality). I really need these files to be high quality. It's essential. Please introduce me to a program that will do this. If you are familiar with Vegas 5, please give me a program that is compatible with it. If not, it would still be helpful to try out any programs. Thankyou once again.

Take the mpeg from VOB2MPG, load it into virtualdubmpeg2, and output as either lagarith or huffyuv. There will be no quality loss, and Vegas can read these.

    A few things to try:

1- Have you renamed the .vob ext to .mpg? That works for me sometimes as Vegas doesnt import vob files directly.

I dont understand when you say Vegas 5 also doesnt read MPEG2 files as it most certainly does.

2 - If you need another program try virtualdubmod to import the vob files and then save them as DV AVI or uncompressed AVI (huge file size). Then import into vegas and do your stuff.
    Virtualdubmod is freeware.

your file should say whateveritscalled.vob - right click on the file and click rename from the options and change the .vob to .mpg

Renaming a VOB does not give you an mpeg, just file with an mpeg extension. VOBs may also contain; multiple video streams, multiple audio streams, subtitle and subpicture streams, menus.

Vegas 6 and 7 will accept VOB files, however the support is designed for VOBs created by DVD based cameras, not commercial DVDs.
