I was wondering if making a VCD on an RW is any different than writing on a CD-R. My question is weather or not the CD-RW need to be preformatted or just blank.

For writing a VCD, the CD-RW disk should be totally blank, and unformatted (so erase the disk if it is formatted).

If your DVD player can read cdrw then there is no difference. Just blank the disk and write to it. In fact I do my first write to a cdrw disk to check out everything then copy the cdrw over to a cdr.
