Here's what I'm doing:
3 one-hour TV shows per DVD-5 disc. Set up in the following manner:
VMG menu: play episodes 1, 2, 3, separate links to chapters for each episode, and a "play all" link
VTS 1: is episode 1 main chapter menu. Four chapters per page.
VTS 2: is episode 2 main chapter menu, four chapters per page.
... and so on.
As each episode is in it's own VTS, inserting subtitles to the movie is easy. VTS 1, movie 1, sub 1. VTS 2, movie 1, sub 1, yadda yadda. This way I don't have to recompile and reinsert movie 1's subtitles three times, movie 2's twice, etc if I had put all three episodes into just one VTS. This IS how I've been doing things, and it SUCKS.
Problem is linking to the subtitles. I can't seem to create the link off of the main VMG menu. I did make a seperate "subtitles" menu (all three episodes on one page, toggle each episodes' subs on/off), but I'm not sure how to insert it into the project. If it's attached to say VTS 1, I can't link to the other two VTS's subs. If I put it into it's own VTS, I can't link to anything. If I made it another VMG menu, I also can't link to any subs in the VTS-es. I'm a little stuck on this one.
How do y'all link to your subs, with abilities to turn 'em on and off? Can anyone suggest a method to get me unstuck?
Thanks much!

You have to set streams within the VTS (can't do it from VMG Menu).
I don't follow why you set it up in different VTS'sDoes each episode have one subtitle
Regards,
George -
Yes, each episode has one, separate subtitle.
I have tried in the past to use a single VTS with multiple episodes. Problem is, episode A's subs run while episode B is playing, even while doing the following during authoring:
VTS
Ep. A
sub1: subs1.sp1
Ep. B
sub1: subs1.sp1 (same as Ep. A)
sub2: subs2.sp2 (the actual subs for Ep. B) - the actual subs that are linked in the menu
This is a major PITA, and that's why I went to:
VMG
VTS 1
Ep. A
sub1: subs1.sp1
VTS 2
Ep. B
sub1: subs2.sp1
VTS 3
Ep. C
sub1: subs3.sp1
It's easier all around. I don't have to recompile Ep. A's subs three times, Ep. B's subs twice, etc. It also takes up much less space on the finished DVD.
My problem is, I want to have ONE menu page that I can turn on or off the subs for all three VTS-es. I could make a separate page (or a separate link) for each VTS, but I'd prefer not to if possible. I can't link subs from the VMG menu, nor can I see that it's possible to link across different VTS to make one subs page.
Suggestions? I'm done with this project except for this problem, and I'd like to test and compile the sucker and get it off of my to-do list.
Thanks -
I still don't understand why you aren't doing this:
VTS1
Ep. A
sub1: epA.sp1
Ep. B
sub1: epB.sp1 -
I agree with George W on this. It should be a straight forward, single VTS project, assuming that
1. All the episodes have the same resolution
2. All the episodes have the same audio format
Each episode should have it's own subs attached only. There is no reason to put the subs for A on episode B.Read my blog here.
