Hi sorry if i am repeating what another member has written or is writing in the wrong place. I just got a few questions here that needs to be answered for a newbies sake lol.
1) I only have a blank cd that has 700MB, and i want to burn a downloaded movie (avi file) onto it, but the movie is 732MB, which means it wouldnt fit as it is oversized. I am using Nero StartSmart right now, and when i copy the oversize dvd to a blank cd, what is does is make my avi movie to a mpeg-4 (which also makes the MB smaller). So when i download it again, it would fit, the problem is it doesnt, and usally it says Failed or after its finished it's just a blank CD again, why? It also says that my cd is written, but it's blank.
2) If i have a oversized movie to be burn on a blank cd, can i cut the movie to two parts so i have 2 chapters to burn on 2 seperate cd's? If yes, what program?
3) Last time when i sucessfully burned a movie, it wasnt the movie i wanted to burn, but another movie also in the same folder, also when burning, it shows me a movie preview, and it does show the movie i wanted to burn, but it isnt the one when i play it, why?
4) why is mpeg-4 files smaller than avi?
5) Why doesnt my copied cd play on a dvd player but only play on a computer?
Thank, Tien.

Actually, Nero SmartStart is just that icon in the tray. It's basically a launcher for the rest of Nero, so just say you're using Nero (6? 7? specific version number please)1) I only have a blank cd that has 700MB, and i want to burn a downloaded movie (avi file) onto it, but the movie is 732MB, which means it wouldnt fit as it is oversized. No it doesn't. Your AVI is likely already in a MPEG4 variant such as XVID or DIVX.and when i copy the oversize dvd to a blank cd, what is does is make my avi movie to a mpeg-4 (which also makes the MB smaller).
Your CD does not support overburning. Other than doing some serious trimming, there's nothing you can do except re-encoding the while AVI again, and I doubt it's worth the time or the effort. You can use an AVI splitter to cut the file though. So when i download it again, it would fit, the problem is it doesnt, and usally it says Failed or after its finished it's just a blank CD again, why? It also says that my cd is written, but it's blank.
Search in tools for AVI Splitters / editors. You want something that can split OpenDML (AVI2.0) files.2) If i have a oversized movie to be burn on a blank cd, can i cut the movie to two parts so i have 2 chapters to burn on 2 seperate cd's? If yes, what program?
Insufficient information.3) Last time when i sucessfully burned a movie, it wasnt the movie i wanted to burn, but another movie also in the same folder, also when burning, it shows me a movie preview, and it does show the movie i wanted to burn, but it isnt the one when i play it, why?
This depends on the AVI's codec used, AND what codecs are used for the MP4 files. You're comparing apples and oranges.4) why is mpeg-4 files smaller than avi?
Because your DVD does not read AVI files, most likely.5) Why doesnt my copied cd play on a dvd player but only play on a computer? -
For the poster's information, there ARE DVD players available that support divx/xvid and some other codecs, such as the Philips DVP-642. They are cheap and this might save you the hassle of re-encoding, and mine plays pretty close to any kind of media.Because your DVD does not read AVI files, most likely.

hey thank you so much to both members posting and helping out. It really did make me understand more lol. I'm not as confused as before now. Thanks again, Tien xx

Also, you don't have to re-encode the movie, just the audio.
Use Virtualdub and choose direct stream copy for the Video and choose Full Processing Mode for the audio and choose a lower compression than the 48000Hz 128kbps MP3 that it probably already is (I like using Frauhofer MP3 instead of Lame MP3 for this task).
That should make the file small enough to fit on a CD and play in a DivX player. -
I am using a Nero burner 6, and whenever i try to copy dvd to a cd, it says it's sucessful but when i play the cd it says its blank. How come this happens and how can i prevent this?

Whats the best software i can use to copy a video on the comp to cd?

If the AVI fits on a CD, just burn the AVI to a CD with Nero burn (not NeroVision or whatever)

This sounds like something the MPAA would post. Setup fake names to gain "evidence" that a site was aiding downloaders. This is why I never answer questions like this. That and I frown on downloading movies (go to theatre or wait and buy/rent DVD).Originally Posted by Babii-BooWant my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I agree in part but...Originally Posted by lordsmurf

It would be counter producive to scream warez in every case, but we do need to consider some sort of rule change to deal with any claims the MPAA and its ilk might want to throw at us in the future.
