Hi-
What is the process for extracting audio from a dvd, editing it and then re-encoding it back into the original dvd?
Thanks for your help,
Mark

It depends on the source audio format (LPCM, MP2, AC3, DTS), number of channels, and the type of editing.
The basic method is demux the audio from the disc, convert it to either one stereo or multiple mono wav files, depending on the number of source channels, make your edits, then re-encode.
The main rule that you must observe to avoid great disappointment is that the length of the audio must never change
There are plenty of guides available for each stage, and if you search the forums for "Back to the Future" you will find some long posts on a project to edit out some of the language and create a combined 1 - 2 - 3 version of the movie.
Tools to look for (and to check out the guides associated with) include IFOEdit, Rejig, PGCEdit, BeSweet, Hypercube Transcoder and HeadAC3heRead my blog here.
